Most Avoided Rugby Teams in Mystery Shirts: 2026 Order Data

England was the most frequently avoided national rugby shirt in Mystique Jerseys' 2026 order data. England appeared in 524 of 1,410 qualifying mystery rugby shirt orders, equivalent to 37.2% of the orders analysed. Leinster was the most avoided individual club or province, named in 149 orders.

We analysed every eligible mystery rugby shirt order placed between 1 January and 29 August 2026. The results reveal which national sides, clubs, provinces, regional groups, competitions and rugby formats our customers most often asked us to avoid.

This is store order data, not a survey of rugby supporters generally. An exclusion does not necessarily mean that a customer dislikes a team. They may support a rival, already own that shirt or simply want something different in their next mystery rugby shirt.

The most avoided national rugby teams

England finished well ahead of every other national side. It was excluded in 524 qualifying orders—almost three times as often as second-placed Wales and four times as often as Ireland.

The gap at the top is the clearest result in the study. England accounted for more than one in three qualifying orders. However, the data tells us only that customers entered England as an exclusion; it does not prove a single reason for doing so.

The most avoided rugby clubs and provinces

Leinster was the most frequently avoided individual club or province, appearing in 149 qualifying orders. That was almost twice Saracens' total of 75. Ulster, Munster and Harlequins completed the top five.

The four Irish provinces generated 322 separate team mentions between them: Leinster 149, Ulster 70, Munster 63 and Connacht 40. This is a total of mentions rather than 322 different customers, because one order could name more than one province.

Which countries or regions were avoided broadly?

Some customers did not name one team. Instead, they entered a broader instruction such as “English clubs”, “Irish provinces” or “UK teams”. We kept these requests separate and did not automatically assign them to every club or national side in that region.

The distinction matters. The 205 broad “English teams or clubs” requests were not added to England's 524 national-team total or to the individual English club totals. Combining them would make the headline number look larger but would make the study less accurate.

Which rugby leagues and formats were avoided most?

Rugby League was the most common broad code or format exclusion, appearing in 150 orders. Premiership Rugby followed closely with 138. These are category-level instructions and are separate from exclusions for individual clubs.

These figures should not be added together. For example, a customer who entered both “Rugby League” and “Super League” appears once in each relevant category.

What do the results tell us?

England is the clearest national-team exclusion

England's 524 exclusions were substantially higher than every other national side. Wales ranked second with 180, followed by Ireland with 131 and Scotland with 124.

Leinster is the standout club or province

Leinster's 149 exclusions placed it comfortably above Saracens, Ulster, Munster and Harlequins. It was also the only individual club or province to appear in more than 10% of qualifying orders.

Customers often avoid entire groups

Broad instructions were a major part of the data. English teams or clubs were excluded in 205 orders, while 150 orders requested no Rugby League shirts generally. Separating these from named teams provides more context without artificially inflating individual rankings.

“Most avoided” does not mean “least popular”

The checkout field records what a customer does not want in that particular order—not why. Rivalry may be a factor, but so might already owning a shirt, supporting the team and having enough of its kits, or wanting a more unusual mystery result. We therefore cannot use this study to claim that England or Leinster is rugby's least popular team.

Methodology: how we calculated the rankings

1. Study period: Orders placed from 1 January to 29 August 2026.
2. Products included: Adult mystery rugby shirts, children's mystery rugby shirts and the mystery rugby shirt-plus-vest bundle.
3. Products excluded: Standalone rugby vests and non-mystery exchange items were not included.
4. Orders reviewed: 2,488 unique eligible orders.
5. Populated responses: 1,468 orders contained a non-empty response in the dedicated Teams To Avoid field.
6. Qualifying orders: 1,410 responses contained at least one team, country, regional group, competition or rugby format that could be classified reliably.
7. Excluded responses: Blank-equivalent answers, preference-only comments, clothing or design requests and entries that were too ambiguous to classify were removed from the ranking dataset.
8. Standardisation: Common abbreviations, alternative names and obvious spelling variations were grouped together—for example, “All Blacks” with New Zealand.
9. Deduplication: The same team or category was counted no more than once per order.
10. Broad exclusions: Requests such as “English clubs” remained broad categories. They were not expanded into every individual English club.

Important: A customer could exclude several teams in one order, so the percentages in each table are not intended to total 100%.
