Abbeydorney GAA is one of County Kerry’s historic hurling clubs. Founded in 1885, the black-and-amber side ended a 50-year wait for the Kerry Senior Hurling Championship in 2024 before completing a remarkable three-in-a-row in 2026.

Hurling Heritage in North Kerry

Abbeydorney GAA was founded in 1885, making it one of Kerry’s oldest Gaelic games clubs. Based near Tralee in the county’s traditional hurling heartland, the club is affiliated with Kerry GAA and the North Kerry Hurling Board.

The club’s early senior county championships came in 1893, 1895 and 1913. Abbeydorney returned to the summit in 1974, establishing four distinct championship-winning years across its first nine decades.

Tom Healy Park

Tom Healy Park is the home of Abbeydorney GAA. The club grounds were officially opened on 15 May 1977 with a programme that included a hurling match between Kerry and Galway.

The ground also staged a notable piece of local history in 2009 when Abbeydorney and Ballyheigue played the first hurling match in Kerry to be held under floodlights.

From a 50-Year Wait to Three in a Row

Abbeydorney defeated Ballyduff by 1-17 to 1-10 in the 2024 Kerry Senior Hurling Championship final. Captain James O’Connor lifted the Neilus Flynn Cup as the club ended a 50-year wait for its fifth county title.

The black-and-amber retained the championship against Ballyduff in 2025 and completed an historic three-in-a-row in 2026. Abbeydorney beat St Brendan’s 3-16 to 1-12 in the final, with Oisín Maunsell scoring 2-04. The victory brought the club’s senior county championship total to seven.
