Founded in 2016 following the purchase of Mpumalanga Black Aces by Cape Town businessman John Comitis, Cape Town City FC were established to bring top-flight football back to the Mother City. Cape Town City won the MTN8 cup competition in 2019, their first major honour, and have consistently been one of South African football's most competitive sides.
