Charlton Athletic FC

Founded in 1905 in the Greenwich area of south-east London, Charlton Athletic rose to prominence in the late 1930s and 1940s, reaching back-to-back FA Cup finals and winning the trophy in 1947. They were a top-flight club for much of the post-war era before falling into decline.

Their most famous chapter came in the 1980s when the club was forced to leave The Valley and share grounds with Crystal Palace and West Ham. The fans launched a remarkable campaign to return home, and in 1992 Charlton came back to The Valley in one of football's great supporter stories. A Premier League stint in the early 2000s under Alan Curbishley remains their modern high point.
