Club Almirante Brown are a historic Argentine football club from La Matanza in Greater Buenos Aires, famous for their unmistakable yellow-and-black colours and passionate support. Known as the Mirasol and La Fragata, the club have built their identity through more than a century of football and are a well-known name in Argentina’s fiercely competitive promotion divisions.

History

Club Almirante Brown were officially founded on 17 January 1922 in San Justo, Buenos Aires. Originally established as the Centro Atlético y Recreativo Almirante Brown, the club inherited its famous black-and-yellow colours from an earlier local institution before adopting the Club Almirante Brown name in 1967.

Almirante have spent much of their football history competing in Argentina’s second and third tiers, building a large and loyal following in La Matanza. Their home since 1969 has been the Estadio Fragata Presidente Sarmiento in Isidro Casanova, a ground strongly associated with the club and its supporters. Promotion campaigns and championship-winning seasons have helped establish Almirante Brown as one of the traditional names of Argentina’s ascenso football.

Kit History & Colours

Almirante Brown are instantly recognisable in yellow and black. The colours were inherited from the club’s predecessor and have become central to the Mirasol identity, with striped and predominantly yellow designs appearing throughout the club’s history.

The club is named after Admiral William Brown, the Irish-born founder of the Argentine Navy. That connection has also inspired special Almirante Brown shirts celebrating Brown’s naval history and his birthplace in Ireland, giving the club one of the more unusual stories behind a football shirt in Argentina.
