Connacht Rugby are Irish rugby's great underdog story. From near-abolition to Pro12 champions in 2016, the western province have built something remarkable in Galway — a genuine rugby community built on passion, identity and the spirit of the west of Ireland.

History

Connacht Rugby was founded in 1885 and represents the western province of Ireland. For much of their professional era, Connacht were seen as the weakest Irish province — they were even nearly abolished by the IRFU in 2003, which only strengthened the resolve of their passionate supporters.

Their greatest moment came in 2016 when, under coach Pat Lam, they won the Pro12 title against Leinster in Edinburgh — one of rugby's most remarkable underdog stories. The Sportsground in Galway, one of European rugby's most intimate grounds, was central to building the atmosphere that drove that success.

Kit History & Colours

Connacht wear turquoise — a unique and distinctive colour in rugby union that reflects the province's individuality and spirit. The turquoise jersey has become a badge of pride for supporters across the west of Ireland and the Connacht diaspora worldwide.
