Central America's greatest football story. Costa Rica's extraordinary run to the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup — defeating Uruguay, Italy, and Greece before falling to the Netherlands on penalties — was one of the tournament's most remarkable achievements and announced La Sele to a global audience. Los Ticos play with heart, organisation, and a passion that belies their small nation status.

History

Costa Rica have been one of CONCACAF's most consistent nations since the 1980s, qualifying for multiple World Cups and competing with distinction on the international stage. Their golden era came at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where they topped a group containing Uruguay, Italy, and England before defeating Greece in the Round of 16 and pushing the Netherlands to a penalty shootout in the quarter-finals.

The 2014 campaign — built around goalkeeper Keylor Navas, captain Bryan Ruiz, and a supremely organised defensive unit — remains the finest achievement in Costa Rican football history and one of the great World Cup stories of the modern era. Costa Rica qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and continue to be one of CONCACAF's most competitive sides, consistently producing players who compete at the highest level in Europe.

Kit History & Colours

Red, white, and blue — the colours of the Costa Rican flag worn with Central American pride. Costa Rica's home kit is bold and distinctive, built around a red shirt that carries the passion of a nation that has consistently punched above its weight on the world stage. Their New Balance kits are well-designed and reflect the quality of a football programme that has produced some of CONCACAF's finest players.
