History

Founded in 1928, Derry City have a unique place in Irish football. Originally members of the Irish Football Association in Northern Ireland, they were forced to withdraw in 1972 due to the Troubles and eventually joined the League of Ireland in 1985 — making them the only club from Northern Ireland to compete in the southern league.

Their return to competitive football was celebrated with remarkable success — winning the League of Ireland, FAI Cup, and League Cup in their first season back in 1989, one of the most extraordinary achievements in Irish football history. Derry City have remained a consistent Premier Division presence and are known for their passionate, vocal support at the Brandywell, one of the most atmospheric grounds on the island of Ireland.
