History
Ecuador qualified for their first World Cup in 2002 and have since become a consistent presence in the tournament. Their finest hour came in 2006 in Germany, where they reached the Round of 16 before losing to England. The squad featured Agustín Delgado and Carlos Tenorio, who became national heroes during that campaign.
At Qatar 2022, Ecuador opened the tournament by defeating hosts Qatar 2–0 in the opening match — a statement result that announced them to a global audience. With Enner Valencia — their all-time top scorer — leading the attack and a new generation of talent emerging, Ecuador are consistently one of CONMEBOL's most competitive sides and a genuine threat at every World Cup.
