FC Dallas is one of Major League Soccer’s original clubs. Beginning life as the Dallas Burn in 1996, the Texas side built a history spanning U.S. Open Cup triumphs, a Supporters’ Shield and one of the most respected youth-development systems in American football.
The Dallas Burn were one of the ten clubs that contested Major League Soccer’s inaugural season in 1996. The franchise played its early home matches at the Cotton Bowl and won its first trophy the following year.
The club was relaunched as FC Dallas in 2005, the same year it moved into a new purpose-built stadium in Frisco. That change created the modern identity while preserving the history and honours earned during the Dallas Burn era.
Dallas won its first U.S. Open Cup in 1997, defeating D.C. United on penalties in the final. The club lifted the trophy for a second time in 2016 with a 4–2 victory over the New England Revolution at Toyota Stadium.
The 2016 team also finished with the best regular-season record in MLS and claimed the Supporters’ Shield. Winning the two trophies in the same year made that campaign one of the defining chapters in FC Dallas history.
FC Dallas is closely connected with Lamar Hunt, one of the central figures in the creation and survival of Major League Soccer. Hunt’s family took control of the Dallas franchise in 2003 and helped deliver the club’s soccer-specific home in Frisco.
The U.S. Open Cup has carried Hunt’s name since 1999. FC Dallas therefore has a particularly meaningful relationship with the competition it won in both 1997 and 2016.
Toyota Stadium opened in Frisco on 6 August 2005. The soccer-specific venue is surrounded by a large training complex and also houses the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
The stadium staged FC Dallas’s 2016 U.S. Open Cup victory and remains the centre of the club’s first-team, academy and wider North Texas football operations.
Red, white and blue define the modern FC Dallas identity. Hooped designs have appeared frequently across the club’s home shirts, helping create the nickname “the Hoops”, while alternative kits have explored different parts of Dallas and North Texas football history.
This FanFile covers FC Dallas rather than one particular shirt. Designs, sponsors and detailing vary by season, and older jerseys may carry the Dallas Burn name and its distinctive black horse crest.
