History
Founded in 1948 through the merger of several Cologne clubs, FC Köln quickly rose to prominence in German football. They were one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963 and won the league title three times, with their most successful era coming in the 1970s and 1980s under legendary striker Dieter Müller and later with the great Pierre Littbarski.
Köln have experienced the full spectrum of German football — Bundesliga glory, European competition, and periods in the second division. Currently competing in the 2. Bundesliga, the club's ambition to return to the top flight is backed by one of Germany's most passionate and loyal fanbases. The RheinEnergieStadion, with its famous atmosphere, is one of the great football venues in Europe.
