Finistère GAA represents a distinctive corner of Gaelic football in Brittany. Rather than being one city club, the Finistère name connects the sport with France’s westernmost department, where established Gaelic football communities in Brest and Quimper have helped the game grow.
Finistère is home to two recognised Gaelic football clubs. Gaelic Football Bro-Leon, now commonly listed as Brest GAA, was established in 2000. Kerne GAA followed in Quimper in 2011 after being formed by former players from Brest and Vannes.
The two clubs developed separate identities while sharing the same departmental and Breton sporting landscape. During Kerne’s early years, the Quimper side played in partnership with Brest before becoming independent for official matches from the 2016 season.
Finistère is known in Breton as Penn-ar-Bed, often translated as “end of the earth”. The department forms the far western edge of mainland France and has a strong Breton cultural identity, making Gaelic football a natural fit within its wider Celtic sporting connections.
Clubs from Finistère compete within the Breton Gaelic games structure alongside teams from the other departments of historic Brittany. That regional network provides competition in men’s and ladies’ Gaelic football and pathways into French, European and international events.
Brest GAA is also known by its historic name, Gaelic Football Bro-Leon. Its teams are nicknamed the Lions and traditionally wear yellow and black.
Kerne GAA represents Quimper and Cornouaille. The club is nicknamed the Rams and uses blue in its identity, with its crest also featuring white and yellow. These are separate local clubs, while Finistère GAA offers a broader departmental identity.
Navy and sky blue are the defining colours of the Finistère GAA outfield jersey. The combination distinguishes the departmental design from the yellow-and-black identity of Brest and the blue-led colours of Kerne GAA.
This FanFile covers Finistère GAA rather than one particular jersey edition. Manufacturers, sponsors and design details can change, so use the crest, garment label and product code on your own shirt to identify its exact version.
