Gävle GAA
Gävle GAA is a young Gaelic football club on Sweden’s east coast, north of Stockholm. Six years ago it was only talk. Now it has a men’s side that wins Nordic tournaments, a ladies team, and a home win over Stockholm Gaels from August 2026.
From Talk to Trophies in a Few Seasons
In September 2020, Swedish local paper Hela Hisingen reported that only three clubs in Sweden played Gaelic football, in the Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg areas, and that there was talk of Gävle getting a club of its own. That club now exists. Gaelic Games Europe lists Gävle GAA in its Nordics region, and the Irish Embassy in Stockholm names it among the GAA clubs in Sweden for people moving to the country.
The Nordics are one of five regions under Gaelic Games Europe, which began as a five-club county board in 1999 and had 114 clubs in 24 countries by January 2025. The Nordic list on the board’s site runs to 15 clubs, from Reykjavík to Tampere, with Gävle alongside Stockholm Gaels, Gothenburg, Malmö and Luleå Gaels in Sweden.
Winning in Stockholm, Then at Home
Gävle won the men’s tournament at the Nordic season opener in Stockholm in May 2025, the same weekend its new ladies team was out in the capital. Copenhagen took the women’s title that day.
In 2026 the club hosted round three of the Nordic championship. On 22 August, Gävle beat Stockholm Gaels 2-4 to 2-3 in a senior final on home soil, before Hillerød Wolfe Tones and Copenhagen played the second game of the day on the same pitch.
A Young Club Jersey
Gävle GAA has only a short kit history, so any club jersey is a piece of its first few seasons in Nordic competition. With five Swedish clubs now playing in the region, the Gävle name and crest are what set it apart.
This FanFile covers Gävle GAA as a club rather than one particular jersey. Check the crest, sponsor, manufacturer label and product code on your own shirt to identify its specific season and edition.
