History
Founded in 1948 in the Silesian mining town of Zabrze, Górnik quickly became the dominant force in Polish football during the 1960s and 1970s, winning 14 Ekstraklasa titles. Their name — Górnik means miner — reflects the industrial heritage of the region and the working-class identity of the club.
Their greatest European moment came in 1969 when they reached the final of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, losing narrowly to Manchester City. It remains one of the finest achievements by a Polish club in European competition and a source of enormous pride for the Zabrze faithful.
