HB Køge was formed on 1 July 2009 following the merger of Herfølge Boldklub and Køge Boldklub. The new club brought together neighbouring football communities in Køge Municipality and began life in Denmark’s top flight.

The initials preserve the Herfølge connection, while Køge remains central to the club’s name and home. The merger created a new sporting identity, but the histories of both predecessor clubs remain an important part of the wider HB Køge story.

Both predecessor clubs had already reached the summit of Danish football. Køge Boldklub won Danish championships in 1954 and 1975, while Herfølge Boldklub became national champion in 2000.

Those titles belong to the predecessor clubs rather than HB Køge’s own honours list. They nevertheless explain the depth of football heritage brought together when HB Køge was created in 2009.

HB Køge’s first campaign was the 2009/10 Danish Superliga season. The club was relegated, but a second-place finish in the following 1st Division campaign secured an immediate return to the top tier.

The Swans competed in the Superliga again in 2011/12 before returning to the second level. Those two seasons remain important milestones for a club established only shortly before its top-flight debut.

HB Køge play their home matches at Capelli Sport Stadion in Køge. The ground is part of Køge Idrætspark and provides the modern setting for the club’s league and cup fixtures.

The stadium name reflects the club’s connection with Capelli Sport. Older references to HB Køge may use earlier sponsored names or the broader Køge Idrætspark name for the same sporting site.

HB Køge’s men and women share the club name and blue-and-black identity, but they have separate competitive records. The women won three consecutive Danish championships from 2021 to 2023 and later moved under separate ownership.
