Inter Kashi carry the identity of Varanasi into Indian professional football. Founded in 2023, the club made an immediate impact: a fourth-place finish in its first I-League season was followed by the 2024/25 championship and promotion to India’s top level.
A New Club from an Ancient City
Inter Kashi was launched in June 2023 as a professional club representing Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh. Kashi is one of the historic names for Varanasi, giving the team a direct connection to one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
The club entered the I-League for the 2023/24 season and played its first competitive match against Gokulam Kerala on 28 October 2023. Inter Kashi finished fourth in that debut campaign, establishing itself quickly at national level.
I-League Champions
Inter Kashi’s second league season produced the club’s first major honour. The final 2024/25 table was affected by disputes over player eligibility, and the championship was not settled when the matches ended.
Following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the All India Football Federation declared Inter Kashi the 2024/25 I-League champions on 18 July 2025. The adjusted table placed the club first on 42 points. Promotion made Inter Kashi one of the fastest-rising new names in Indian football.
Why the Name Inter Kashi?
The club was created with international football connections. Its launch included collaboration with Atlético de Madrid and Inter Club d’Escaldes of Andorra, with the “Inter” name reflecting that link. Atlético provided sporting expertise to the new project, while the club developed its own identity around Kashi and Uttar Pradesh.
The nickname Kaashee Ke Yoddhas means “Warriors of Kashi”. It captures the club’s aim to represent the city and build a pathway for football talent from its region.
Orange and Navy
Orange is the colour most closely associated with Inter Kashi’s home identity, commonly paired with dark navy or black detailing. The palette gives the young club a bold and immediately recognisable look, while alternative shirts have also used navy, blue and lighter tones.
