History
Italy joined the Six Nations in 2000, becoming the first new nation to enter the tournament since its expansion from the Five Nations. Their early years were difficult, with the Azzurri often on the receiving end of heavy defeats, but the passion for rugby in northern Italy — particularly in the Veneto and Lombardy regions — has always been strong.
