Keel GAA is one of County Kerry’s long-established Gaelic football clubs. Founded in 1889 and rooted in Mid Kerry, the blue-and-white club combines a history stretching back to the earliest years of Kerry competition with a new county championship success in 2026.

A Kerry Club Since 1889

Keel GAA was founded in 1889, placing the club among the early generation of GAA organisations established in County Kerry. The club represents the community of Keel and has remained a familiar name in Mid Kerry football for well over a century.

Keel appeared in the formative years of the Kerry Senior Football Championship and reached county finals in both 1891 and 1893. The club’s long story has since been shaped by local competitions, county championships and generations of juvenile and adult footballers.

Premier Junior Champions in 2026

Keel won the Kerry Premier Junior Football Championship in September 2026, defeating Churchill by 0-14 to 0-12 in the final at Austin Stack Park in Tralee. The victory followed knockout wins over Piarsaigh na Dromoda and Annascaul.

The title added a fresh milestone to Keel’s honours. The club had previously won the Kerry Junior Football Championship in 2013, overcoming nearby rivals Glenbeigh-Glencar in the county final.

Club and Divisional Football

Keel is part of the Mid Kerry GAA division alongside clubs including Beaufort, Cromane, Glenbeigh-Glencar and Laune Rangers. Players from these clubs can also combine for Mid Kerry in the Kerry Senior Football Championship.

This divisional structure gives footballers from smaller communities an additional route into senior county competition while preserving the identity and rivalries of their own clubs.
