History

Kilkenny's hurling tradition stretches back to the earliest days of the GAA, founded in 1884. The county has won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship a record 36 times, with legendary managers including Brian Cody — who guided Kilkenny to 11 All-Ireland titles between 1999 and 2015.

UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny city is the county ground, named after former GAA president James Nowlan. On All-Ireland final day in Croke Park, the sea of black and amber from Kilkenny supporters is one of the great sights in Irish sport.

Kit History & Colours

Kilkenny's black and amber stripes are the most iconic colours in hurling. The distinctive hooped jersey has been worn for over a century and is instantly recognisable to any GAA follower worldwide. The black and amber combination represents tradition, excellence and an expectation of winning.
