History
Founded in 1916 by soldiers of the Polish Legions, Legia Warsaw have always carried a military identity with pride. Based in the capital, they quickly became the dominant force in Polish football, winning their first league title in 1955 and going on to claim 15 Ekstraklasa championships.
Legia have also made their mark in European football, most notably reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1970. In 2016 they came agonisingly close to the Champions League group stage, defeating Sporting CP before a controversial disqualification. They remain Poland's best-known club internationally and a regular presence in European competition.
