The NRL's most consistently excellent club of the modern era and the standard-bearer for professional rugby league. The Storm have won four premierships, produced more international players than almost any other club, and built a culture of excellence under Craig Bellamy that is the envy of the competition. Purple, white, and relentless.
The Melbourne Storm were founded in 1998 as the NRL's expansion into Victoria, giving Australia's second-largest city its first top-flight rugby league club. Under foundation coach Chris Anderson, the Storm won the premiership in just their second season in 1999, an extraordinary achievement for a new club. Under Craig Bellamy — coach since 2003 and the most successful coach in NRL history — they went on to build the most consistent dynasty in the modern NRL, reaching the grand final on twelve occasions and winning the title in 1999, 2012, 2017, and 2020.
The Storm's success has been built on a culture of discipline, preparation, and development that has produced some of the greatest players in NRL history — Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, and Cameron Munster among them. The club was controversially stripped of two premierships (2007 and 2009) due to salary cap breaches uncovered in 2010. Despite the controversy, the Storm's on-field excellence has never been in doubt, and they remain the benchmark for professional standards in the NRL.
Purple and white — the Storm's colours are unique in the NRL and give the club an instantly recognisable identity. The purple jersey was chosen at the club's foundation in 1998 and has become synonymous with excellence, discipline, and winning in Australian rugby league. It is a colour that carries the weight of four premierships and over two decades of consistent success at the top of the competition.
The Storm's home purple jersey is worn at AAMI Park — a purpose-built rectangular stadium in Melbourne that is one of the finest sporting venues in Australia. The ground generates an outstanding atmosphere for NRL matches and has been the scene of some of the most memorable moments in the club's history. Every Storm kit is worn with the expectation of excellence that Craig Bellamy's culture has instilled in the club.
