Na Gaeil Óga is an all-Irish-speaking GAA club based in Lucan, west Dublin. Founded by young Irish speakers in 2010, the club has grown into a multi-code community where Gaelic football, ladies’ football, hurling and camogie are played through the Irish language.
Na Gaeil Óga was founded in 2010 by a group of young people who wanted more opportunities to use Irish in everyday life. They also wanted to create a modern GAA club with a strong community focus, where members could develop both on and off the pitch.
Unlike most clubs, Na Gaeil Óga is connected primarily by language rather than a traditional parish boundary. Its name translates as “The Young Gaels”, reflecting both the age of the club and the young people who established it.
Na Gaeil Óga describes itself as the only club outside the Gaeltacht offering camogie, hurling and football through Irish. Training, matches and club life give members a practical setting in which to speak and improve the language.
Fluency is not required before joining. The club welcomes experienced speakers, learners and people with only a few words of Irish, using sport and friendship to make the language part of normal community life.
The club has expanded from its original group into an organisation with more than 500 members and approximately 30 teams across adult and juvenile age groups. Its growth has made Na Gaeil Óga an important part of both Dublin GAA and the wider Irish-language community.
In 2019, the camogie team won the first championship in the club’s history. The juvenile section has continued to progress, with Na Gaeil Óga winning Dublin’s Under-15 Hurling Féile Division 5 in 2026.
Na Gaeil Óga CLG should not be confused with Na Gaeil GAA in Tralee, County Kerry, or Na Gaeil Aeracha in Dublin. The accents in Na Gaeil Óga and the full club name are useful when searching for the correct team.
The Lucan club’s distinctive identity is its commitment to conducting Gaelic games and community activities through Irish.
Navy and sky blue are the colours associated with Na Gaeil Óga. Club jerseys have used the combination in hoops, stripes and modern gradient patterns, while sponsors and finer design details vary between teams and seasons.
This FanFile covers Na Gaeil Óga as a club rather than identifying one particular jersey. Check the crest, sponsor, manufacturer label and care instructions on your own shirt for the details that apply to its edition.
