Pacific FC are Vancouver Island’s professional football club, based in Langford near Victoria and playing in the Canadian Premier League. One of the seven clubs that launched the league in 2019, the Tridents have already won a national title and knocked a Major League Soccer side out of the Canadian Championship.
Pacific FC were unveiled in July 2018 as the seventh club to join the Canadian Premier League. They played their first competitive match on 28 April 2019 and beat HFX Wanderers 1-0, with Hendrik Starostzik scoring the only goal.
The high point came in 2021. Pacific beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-3 in the Canadian Championship, becoming the second CPL club to knock out an MLS side, then finished the year by beating Forge FC 1-0 in the CPL Final on 5 December to win their first league title. That earned a place in the 2022 CONCACAF League, where they won their preliminary round tie 6-0 on aggregate against Waterhouse before going out to Herediano of Costa Rica on penalties in the round of 16.
Their biggest rivals are Cavalry FC of Calgary, a rivalry that grew in 2021 when the two sides met eight times across three competitions. On the terraces, the Lake Side Buoys and Torcida Organizada Pacific are the club’s supporters’ groups.
Recent seasons have been tougher. Head coach James Merriman, who had been with the club since 2019, left in May 2026 and Terry Dunfield, a former Canada international, took over in July. Pacific went 27 CPL matches without a win before a 4-3 home victory over HFX Wanderers on 30 August 2026, a 386-day wait. They finished the 2026 season eighth in the eight-team league on 15 points.
Purple, teal and white are the club’s official colours, which Pacific call starfish purple, lagoon blue and lighthouse white. They are inspired by the sea stars native to the island’s coast, the Pacific Ocean and the region’s lighthouses.
The main crest is a Douglas fir split in two, with one side forming the outline of Vancouver Island. A secondary roundel carries a trident and the Latin motto Semper Liber, taken from the Victoria coat of arms. Macron made the club’s shirts from 2019 to 2022 and Hummel has supplied them since 2026, and the 2022 and 2024 alternate kits were designed with Coast Salish artist Maynard Johnny Jr.
