Red Wolves Hurling Club
Red Wolves Hurling Club calls itself North Carolina’s newest hurling club, and it did not take long to win something. Within about a year of starting out in Charlotte, it came home from the 2023 USGAA Finals in Denver with a national junior title.
Hurling in the Queen City
When WBTV’s QC Life profiled the club in August 2023, it had only been going for about a year. It trains through the week, takes players of all ages and welcomes anyone willing to pick up a hurl for the first time. Charlotte GAA, which plays football and hurling, is listed separately in the same division, so the Red Wolves are a hurling-first club in a city with two Gaelic games clubs.
The USGAA Southeast Division covers eight states, from Virginia down to southern Florida and west into Louisiana, with clubs such as Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Charleston, Atlanta and Nashville. In 2024 the Red Wolves added a camogie team, and Play Hurling now describes them as a hurling and camogie club.
Denver, Camden and the Pack Mentality
Play Hurling’s list of USGAA Finals winners has the Red Wolves as 2023 Junior C Hurling champions, at the finals Denver hosted that August. WBTV reported the club winning its division in Denver and coming home with the trophy.
On 2 March 2024 the club won the third Camden Cup, hosted by Charleston Hurling Club at Irish Fest Camden in South Carolina against hurling clubs from around the Southeast. A month later, on 6 April, it hosted its own Pack Mentality development tournament, open to individuals and clubs from across the US. In May 2026 the Red Wolves were among the visiting clubs at Raleigh’s Festival of Gaelic Games in Apex.
The Pack From Charlotte
The club leans hard into its name. Its own tournament is called Pack Mentality, and Play Hurling once called it “the hottest lupine-themed hurling and camogie club”. A Red Wolves jersey is a young club’s shirt from one of the newest hurling scenes in the American South.
