Richmond GAA
Gaelic games in the heart of Virginia. Richmond GAA — known as The Battery — bring the spirit of Irish sport to Richmond, one of America's most historic cities. A club built on community, culture, and the love of Gaelic games, the Battery are part of a growing GAA movement across the eastern United States.
History
Richmond Battery GAA were established in 2014 to serve the Irish community and GAA enthusiasts in the Richmond, Virginia area. The club competes in hurling and camogie competitions organised through the Mid-Atlantic Division of the USGAA — the governing body for GAA clubs across the United States. In August 2025 the Battery won their first national title, the USGAA Junior D hurling championship, at the finals in Philadelphia.
The Battery are part of a vibrant and growing GAA scene across the eastern United States, where clubs like Richmond are introducing Gaelic games to new communities while providing a home-from-home for Irish emigrants and their families. The club's nickname — The Battery — blends Irish sporting tradition with the character of their adopted home.
