History
Richmond GAA were established to serve the Irish community and GAA enthusiasts in the Richmond, Virginia area. The club competes in Gaelic football and hurling competitions organised through the Mid-Atlantic GAA board, which is affiliated with the North American County Board (NACB) — the governing body for GAA clubs across the United States and Canada.
The Battery are part of a vibrant and growing GAA scene across the eastern United States, where clubs like Richmond are introducing Gaelic games to new communities while providing a home-from-home for Irish emigrants and their families. The club's nickname — The Battery — is a nod to Richmond's rich Civil War history and the city's identity, blending Irish sporting tradition with the character of their adopted home.
