The pride of Asturias. Sporting Gijón are one of northern Spain's most beloved clubs, with a proud history in La Liga and a passionate working-class fanbase that has supported the Rojiblancos through every division. Two Copa del Rey titles and a tradition of producing talented players make Sporting a club with real heritage.

History

Founded in 1905 in the Asturian port city of Gijón, Sporting have spent significant periods in La Liga and were a consistent top-flight presence in the 1970s and 1980s. They won the Copa del Rey in 1968 and 1979 and produced several Spanish internationals during their golden era, including the legendary Quini.

El Molinón, their historic stadium, is one of the oldest in Spain and creates one of the most atmospheric matchday experiences in Spanish football. Sporting's passionate Asturian fanbase has remained loyal through the club's years in the second division, and the club continues to develop young talent through their respected academy.

Kit History & Colours

Red and white stripes — the Rojiblancos colours worn with Asturian pride. Sporting Gijón's home kit is one of the most traditional in Spanish football, and the red and white stripes have been a constant throughout the club's 120-year history. Bold, classic, and unmistakably Sporting.

Their kits carry the working-class identity of Gijón and the Asturian mining tradition, and the red and white of Sporting is worn with enormous pride by a fanbase that has never wavered in its support.

Quini
Sporting Gijón's greatest ever player and one of the finest strikers in Spanish football history. Enrique Castro Quini — known simply as Quini — was a prolific, technically gifted forward who won five Pichichi awards as La Liga's top scorer and became a national hero. He spent the core of his career at Sporting before moving to Barcelona, and his legacy in Gijón is immense. A statue outside El Molinón honours one of Asturias' greatest sporting sons.
