One of rugby league's most historic clubs, carrying the legacy of the St George Dragons — the team that won 11 consecutive NSWRL premierships between 1956 and 1966, the greatest dynasty in the history of the game. The merged St George Illawarra club won the NRL title in 2010 and represents communities from Sydney's south to the Illawarra coast. Red and white, historic and proud.

History

St George Football Club was founded in 1921 and achieved the greatest dynasty in rugby league history, winning 11 consecutive NSWRL premierships between 1956 and 1966 — a record that will almost certainly never be broken. The team of that era, featuring legends like Norm Provan, Reg Gasnier, and Johnny Raper, is widely regarded as the greatest club side in the history of the game. St George won 15 premierships in total before merging with the Illawarra Steelers in 1998 to form the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The merged club won the NRL premiership in 2010 under coach Wayne Bennett, with a team featuring Jamie Soward, Darius Boyd, and Ben Hornby. The victory ended a 31-year premiership drought for the St George faithful and was celebrated across the Illawarra and St George regions. The Dragons continue to carry the weight of their extraordinary history and the expectation of a fanbase that knows what it means to be the most successful club in the history of rugby league.

Kit History & Colours

Red and white — the Dragons' colours are among the most historic and recognisable in rugby league. The red V on a white jersey — the iconic Red V — has been the club's signature since the St George era and is one of the most celebrated kit designs in the history of the game. It is a jersey that carries the weight of 11 consecutive premierships and over a century of rugby league history, worn with the pride of a club that knows it represents something truly extraordinary.

The Dragons' home kit is worn at both WIN Stadium in Wollongong and Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Sydney, reflecting the merged club's dual identity across the St George and Illawarra regions. The Red V is one of the most iconic symbols in Australian sport, instantly recognisable to rugby league fans of every generation and every allegiance.

Notable Player

Featured Player
Reg Gasnier
Reg Gasnier is the greatest player in St George history and one of the finest centres rugby league has ever produced. A brilliant, elusive runner with extraordinary footwork and try-scoring ability, Gasnier was the star of St George's 11 consecutive premiership-winning teams between 1956 and 1966 and is widely regarded as the most gifted back of his era. He earned 31 Test caps for Australia and was named in the Rugby League Team of the Century as one of the greatest players of all time. Gasnier's career was cut short by injury in 1967, but his legacy at St George — and in the history of rugby league — is secure as one of the game's true immortals.
