History
St George Football Club was founded in 1921 and achieved the greatest dynasty in rugby league history, winning 11 consecutive NSWRL premierships between 1956 and 1966 — a record that will almost certainly never be broken. The team of that era, featuring legends like Norm Provan, Reg Gasnier, and Johnny Raper, is widely regarded as the greatest club side in the history of the game. St George won 15 premierships in total before merging with the Illawarra Steelers in 1998 to form the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The merged club won the NRL premiership in 2010 under coach Wayne Bennett, with a team featuring Jamie Soward, Darius Boyd, and Ben Hornby. The victory ended a 31-year premiership drought for the St George faithful and was celebrated across the Illawarra and St George regions.
