Thiès FC were created in 1980 by merging two clubs from Senegal’s second city of football, one of them a former national champion. As a second-division side they reached the 2003 Senegal Cup final, which took them into Africa. They have had their ups and downs since, and in 2026 they dropped into the third tier.
The club was founded at Thiès town hall on 26 October 1980. It brought together Club Olympique de Thiès, Senegalese champions in 1964, and Olympique Thiès Etudiant Club, and took on players and equipment from both. The organisers wanted a club that cared about its members’ education as well as results. For years it played as the Association Sportive et Culturelle de Thiès, ASC Thiès, before becoming Thiès Football Club.
Thiès is a football town. US Rail won the national title in 1962 and the Senegal Cup in 1963, and Wally Daan and Amitié FC play there now. Thiès FC’s own big moment came from outside the top flight.
In 2003 ASC Thiès, coached by Cheikh Sidaty Sarr, beat three first-division sides on the way to the Senegal Cup final. It was the town’s first senior final in 38 years. AS Douanes won 1–0 with a goal after three minutes, when goalkeeper Cheikh Daouda Seck parried a through ball and the rebound went in off defender Landry Ndione. Douanes won the double, so the place in the 2004 CAF Confederation Cup went to Thiès. Stade Tunisien beat them 6–0 in the first leg. Thiès won the return 3–0 but went out 6–3 on aggregate.
In 2005–06 Thiès Football Club won Poule A of the Second Division with 34 points from 18 games and went up. In 2009 the club forfeited the top-flight season and was relegated, and it later climbed back to Ligue 2.
Thiès FC never challenged for promotion in Ligue 2. Their best finish was fifth in 2022–23, and in 2024 they finished 12th during a falling-out between presidents Khalifa Sarr and Mazen Jaber. In 2025–26 they opened with a 1–0 win over Teranga SC, but more boardroom arguments took over and the team sank to the bottom. A 3–1 defeat to Port Autonome de Dakar on 16 May 2026 left them 16th on 21 points with two rounds to go, and relegated. They play in National 1, the third tier, in 2026–27.
Thiès FC play in black and yellow. Shirts from Senegal’s lower divisions are rarely documented, and there are few public records of the club’s kit makers or sponsors.
