Genoa's other great club. U.C. Sampdoria are one of Italian football's most beloved and stylish clubs — Serie A champions, European trophy winners, and the home of one of the most distinctive kits in world football. The Blucerchiati carry the spirit of the Ligurian port city with passion, flair, and a fanbase that has never wavered through the highs and lows.

History

Founded in 1946 through the merger of two Genoese clubs, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria, Sampdoria quickly established themselves as one of Serie A's most competitive sides. Their golden era came under president Paolo Mantovani and coach Vujadin Boškov in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when a brilliant squad featuring Roberto Mancini, Gianluca Vialli, and Pietro Vierchowod won the Coppa Italia four times, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1990, and the Serie A title in 1991 — the only league championship in the club's history.

They reached the European Cup final in 1992, losing 1–0 to Barcelona in extra time at Wembley in one of the great finals of the era. Financial difficulties in subsequent decades led to periods of struggle, including relegations from Serie A, but Sampdoria's passionate fanbase has always remained loyal. Currently competing in Serie B, the Blucerchiati are determined to return to the top flight and reclaim their place among Italian football's elite.

Kit History & Colours

Blue with the iconic red, white, and black hoop — one of the most distinctive and beautiful kits in world football. Sampdoria's home shirt is instantly recognisable worldwide, and the Blucerchiati — meaning the blue-circled ones — take their very nickname from it. The hoop across the chest is unique in Italian football and has made Sampdoria's jersey one of the most coveted classic shirts among collectors and fans globally.

Gianluca Vialli
One of Italian football's most beloved figures and the heart of Sampdoria's golden generation. Gianluca Vialli was the talismanic striker who fired the Blucerchiati to their Serie A title in 1991 and the European Cup final in 1992, forming a devastating partnership with Roberto Mancini that is still spoken of with reverence in Genoa. Elegant, powerful, and with an extraordinary eye for goal, Vialli went on to win the Champions League with Juventus before a successful managerial career. He remained a cherished figure at Sampdoria until his passing in 2023 — a true legend of the club and of Italian football.
