Small nation, giant history. Uruguay are one of football's founding powers — two World Cup winners, 15 Copa América titles, and a tradition of producing world-class strikers that punches far above their weight. La Celeste have been defying expectations since the very beginning of the game.

History

Uruguay won the first ever World Cup in 1930 on home soil, and then achieved one of football's greatest upsets in 1950 when they defeated hosts Brazil 2–1 in the final match of the tournament — a result known in Brazil as the Maracanazo. For a nation of just three million people, their record in world football is extraordinary.

In the modern era, Uruguay reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2010 under Oscar Tabarez, with Luis Suárez and Diego Forlán leading the attack. They hold the record for most Copa América titles alongside Argentina with 15, and consistently qualify for World Cups despite their small population. La Celeste remain one of South America's most respected and feared sides.

Kit History & Colours

Sky blue — La Celeste, the heavenly blue that gives Uruguay their nickname. One of the most distinctive colours in South American football, Uruguay's sky blue home shirt is instantly recognisable and carries the weight of two World Cup triumphs and over a century of football history.

Their Puma kits are popular across South America, and the sky blue of Uruguay is a colour that resonates deeply with football fans who appreciate the history and tradition of the beautiful game.
