The product of a merger between two of rugby league's founding clubs — Western Suburbs and Balmain — the Wests Tigers carry the combined heritage of over 230 years of rugby league history. Their sole NRL premiership in 2005 remains one of the most celebrated in the competition's history. Black, gold, and orange — the Tigers are one of the NRL's most passionate clubs.

History

The Wests Tigers were formed in 2000 through a merger of Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers — two of the founding clubs of rugby league in 1908. Both clubs had proud histories and passionate fanbases, and the merger was controversial among supporters of both sides. However, the combined club quickly established its own identity and in 2005 delivered one of the most celebrated premierships in NRL history.

The 2005 NRL Grand Final victory over the North Queensland Cowboys — won 30–16 at Telstra Stadium — was built around the brilliance of Benji Marshall, whose extraordinary skill and flair had captured the imagination of rugby league fans across Australia throughout the season. Marshall's flick pass to Pat Richards for a crucial try in the grand final is one of the most replayed moments in NRL history. The Wests Tigers have been chasing a second premiership ever since, with a fanbase that draws from both the western suburbs and the inner west of Sydney and remains among the most passionate in the competition.

Kit History & Colours

Black, gold, and orange — the Wests Tigers' colours blend the black and gold of the Western Suburbs Magpies with the black and gold of the Balmain Tigers to create a distinctive identity that honours both founding clubs. The combination gives the Wests Tigers a bold, recognisable look in the NRL and connects the modern club to over a century of rugby league history from two of the game's most storied institutions.

The Wests Tigers play their home matches at both Campbelltown Stadium and the iconic Leichhardt Oval — one of the most atmospheric and beloved grounds in rugby league. Leichhardt Oval, with its compact size and passionate crowd, generates one of the most unique atmospheres in the NRL and is a ground that visiting teams find deeply uncomfortable. The black and gold of the Tigers is worn with the pride of a club that knows it carries the history of two founding clubs and the hopes of a fanbase that has never stopped believing in the next premiership.
